Fronted by bassist, arranger and composer John Curtis, the Quintet performs in variety of styles ranging from straight-ahead jazz, to soul, to modern fusion and funk. In all contexts, Curtis insists that rhythm is king, a fact evident in the smooth lines and soloistic prowess displayed by his bandmates. Hailing from across the world, from the Philippines to the American South, the band’s keyboard, drum and bass rhythm section complements saxophones, trumpet and flute in a what can only be described as an experience.
Here’s a clip of a little horn arrangement of Donny Hathaway’s classic, “Someday We’ll All be Free.” What a great singer we had with us that day! Nice trumpet solo, too.
